What is Guided Port Ordering in ECP?
This capability allows you to order ECX port in Equinix Customer Portal (ECP). It saves time (50% faster port activations), eliminates filling out port ordering form (the CRD) and errors in order processing. Currently, you can order Cloud Exchange Port and Cloud Exchange Metro Port.
How does it work if I am ordering ECX ports for the first time?
In order to place an ECX port order for the first time, your user account must have the accurate permission granted by your company’s account admin.
The Network Port requests from ECP that are “eligible for order” will flow straight through the backend fulfillment process, while “non-eligible for order” requests will be auto-created as a quote request and sent to your account team who can then process the quote following the manual process.
How do I find the ECX port ordering capability?
To start an online port order, you will go to the ECP home page, click on ‘Services’ tab, then select ‘Network Ports’, and then select ‘Cloud Exchange Port’.
How much faster is port ordering via ECP?
You can place the ECX port order via ECP in less than five minutes as compared to manual, error-prone CRD which may take a few iterations if an error is made.
How much faster is port delivery when ports are ordered via ECP?
The amount of time it takes to deliver an ECX Port varies based on the complexity of the port order. Typically, it takes approximately 3 days for orders placed via ECP, whereas manual port orders take approximately 8 days.
How does Guided port ordering on ECP reduce complexity?
Guided port ordering in ECP is an automated process that helps you place a port order through self-guided wizard. The automated process eliminates data entry errors resulting in faster order fulfilment.
What does the Guided port order form look like in ECP?
Do I still attach a CRD to my port order placed through ECP?
You do not need to attach a CRD or notes to your ECP port order.
Does ECP handle all types of Cloud Exchange port orders?
The following are the eligible products for orders:
- Cloud Exchange Standard Port
- Cloud Exchange Metro Port
The following are non-eligible products for orders:
- Cloud Exchange Extended Metro Port
- Cloud Extended Metro Remote Port
- Cloud Exchange Metro Remote Port

What is “Click to Accept” functionality?
We have introduced “Click to Accept” functionality for network port orders so that you will be able to review the relevant terms, conditions, and policy documents before placing any network port order via ECP. This functionality in ECP introduces port ordering capability for most network port requests for Equinix Internet Exchange, Cloud Exchange or Metro Connect products.
Is it possible for an internal team member to submit port order on my behalf?
No, it is not possible for an Equinix employee to submit a port order on your behalf. At the end of the process, you are required to ‘Click to Accept’ button to acknowledge the Equinix policies.
